The Hovey Companies, LLC is a development firm that specializes in building affordable and market rate apartment communities within the State of Michigan. Founder James R. Hovey has been involved in the development and construction business for more than 25 years. Throughout that time Mr. Hovey has been led by two guiding principles; quality workmanship and moral soundness. Those two essentials have led to the production of over 2,000 apartment units and a reputation for doing whatever it takes to get the job done right and on budget.

With developments in both rural and urban areas throughout Michigan’s lower peninsula, The Hovey Companies has experience in building small and large scale apartment communities. By utilizing government and conventional financing with tax credit equity, our firm is able to provide quality housing for all income levels.

At The Hovey Companies, we undertake ventures that are difficult in order to expand our capabilities. We have experience in federal, state and tax credit financing. Our firm has incorporated “Green” design features into our developments, worked within Brownfield Districts and partnered with non-profit entities to provide special needs housing. Our increasing knowledge base allows us to offer unique features within our communities as well as implement creative financing solutions in order to build quality affordable housing that will be successful in their respective communities for years to come.
